What a forest upgrade is
A forest upgrade changes the tree on a plot, or the quality of trees you are allowed to plant. Starter marketing shows a green cube tree on a tiny fenced island. Later marketing shows mushroom trees in purple, red, cyan, and spotted caps on a purple platform, plus tall red column-like trunks on the three-story island. Those are not decorations. They are the visual language for “this chop is worth more.”
When you buy a forest upgrade you should see at least one of:
- A new tree model on an existing pad.
- A higher logs-per-second number on the same animal.
- A shop line that unlocks the next tree tier for every plot on that floor.
If you spent logs and only the fence color changed, you bought cosmetics. Re-open the shop and look for the line that mentions trees, forest, wood, or income.
Why forest beats floors early
Floors add pads. Forest multiplies chops on pads you already staff. Official art makes the math obvious even without a hidden spreadsheet:

The jump is not “more grass.” The jump is better trees plus a better animal. Buying a second hexagonal story while you still have a cube tree copies the 1/s problem upward. Read unlock floors only when the current story has no empty staffed pad.
How to spend a log pile on forest
- Collect or auto-deposit so you are not carry-capped (crew if you are).
- Open the upgrade shop and sort by forest / trees.
- Buy the next tree on the best staffed plot, not a random empty pad.
- Watch the
/scounter. If it did not move, you bought the wrong line. - Repeat until the next tree costs more than a meaningful crew speed upgrade. Then mix.
Use codes the same way: a lump of logs should become a tree, not a vacant floor. There were no public codes on 1 Sep 2026, but the spend rule will still apply when a string drops.
Planting versus unlocking
Some tycoons unlock a tree type globally, then charge again to plant it on each pad. Others replace all trees at once. My Timber Pets official copy says “unlock better trees,” which sounds global, but you should still click each plot after a purchase. If a pad is still a cube while the rest are mushrooms, interact with that pad.
Water surrounds the hexagonal island. You cannot plant in the ocean. If a shop offers “expand island” as well as “better trees,” treat expand as a floor/space purchase and rank it lower until plots are full.
Forest and AFK
Idle time multiplies whatever tree is planted. An hour of AFK on a mushroom tree is worth more than three hours on a cube. That is why the AFK farm checklist asks you to buy the next forest upgrade before you walk away, if you can afford it. Do not start a long disconnect one click short of a tree you can already buy.
Forest and rare animals
A kitsune-style fox on a cube tree is still a cube tree. Put rare animals on the best forest you own. The rare animals guide is about who chops; this guide is about what they chop. When both are strong, you get the 45Q/s fantasy in the thumbnail. When only the animal is strong, you have a trophy standing on a starter plot.
Signs you should stop buying forest for a bit
- The next tree costs more than several crew speed levels that would raise the same
/s. - You have empty pads. Fill them with any tree plus any animal first.
- A patch added a new floor and you cannot staff it. Buy animals, then trees, then the next forest tier.
- You are rolling instead of planting. Close the roll menu.

Forest is the quiet upgrade. It does not have a 1/67Qn fanfare. It is also the reason two islands with the same animal look nothing alike. Buy the tree, then go AFK.
